Fawcett Society Demo || Don’t Turn Back Time on Womens Equality

Fawcett Society Day of Action ||
“DON’T TURN BACK TIME ON WOMEN’S EQUALITY!”

Saturday 19 November 2011
@Temple Tube 12.00pm

FACEBOOK EVENT: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=301558016526626

On average, women earn less, own less, and are more likely to work and retire in poverty than men.

The government’s approach to cutting the deficit will widen the gap between women and men:

-Female unemployment is rising as jobs are cut in public service
-The benefits and services women rely on more are being slashed
-Women on low incomes are becoming poorer
-The pay gap looks set to widen
-Women’s access to vital support services is being undermined
-Increasing numbers of women are being forced to give up work as cuts to childcare support means their jobs no longer cover the family’s care costs

The government’s approach to cutting the deficit is turning back time on women’s equality. This can’t go on.
On November 19th, join us on the ‘DON’T turn back time’ March in London or host your own ‘DON’T turn back time’ tea party to help us tell David Cameron:

“DON’T TURN BACK TIME ON WOMEN’S EQUALITY!”

THE ‘DON’T TURN BACK TIME MARCH’ IN LONDON

1950’s THEME: DRESS UP! To send the message that women don’t want to be catapulted back to the levels of inequality of yesteryear.
Your costume can be as simple (maybe just a head scarf) or as complicated (think full 50′s get-up complete with rubber gloves and chains to chain yourself to the kitchen sink with!) as you like.
FAMILY FRIENDLY – STAR SPEAKERS TO BE CONFIRMED
‘ATTEND’ the event on Facebook(http://tinyurl.com/62ewtuu)
Spread the word on Twitter using hashtag #dontturnbacktime, and better still,
INVITE ALL YOUR FRIENDS!
March Details:

12 noon – march congregates at Temple tube, Victoria Embankment.

12.30 – march sets off down Embankment, across Horse Guards Avenue, down Whitehall past Downing Street.
13.30 – march finishes with a rally on King Charles Street.

Download our march poster, print if off and stick it up everywhere!

Check back here or sign up for our free e-bulletin to receive up-to-date information on the latest speakers confirmed for the rally.

THE DON’T TURN BACK TIME TEA PARTY

For those of you who aren’t able to attend the march in London, or would rather hold your own mini-action, you can host a ‘DON’T turn back time tea party’ to raise awareness and generate media coverage of the issues in your local area!

Download our template invitations and ‘Tea Party campaign pack’ for information on how to go about organising your party and on how to generate media coverage.

Don’t forget to tell us what you are planning!
For further information see document downloads to the left, or email economy@fawcettsociety.org.uk to get involved.

SIATC *UPDATE* SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER 2011

SIATC *UPDATE* SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER 2011

Dear Teacups,

This months update is a little late so we thought we would combine it and send you a bumper update for both September and October! You will find below our extra awesome listings, highlighting our fave feminist and queer friendly events all the way through to November so you can start planning your autumn / winter calender now!

First up, a big thank you to all that braved the rain and miserable climate and attended our storytelling event “Her-Story” on Hampstead Heath. It wasn’t exactly the August bank holiday weather we had envisioned but was a fantastic event with lots of talented ladies and a magical campfire atmosphere – so it was a great success all the same. A special thank you to Vanessa Woolf for hosting and Kath Woolf for capturing the event on camera.
