Storm in a Teacup have been busy organising a University Tour for the Lets Start a Pussy Riot book (published by Rough Trade in June this year and in collaboration with Pussy Riot). We will have lots more exciting news to share with you in next month’s update with details on the lectures, seminars and events we have in the pipeline. Next weekend Lets Start a Pussy Riot have been invited by Tim Burgess (of The Charlatans fame) to run a workshop at Tim Peakes Diner part of Festival Number 6. in Portmeirion, Wales on Saturday 14th of September. Storm in a Teacup are also excited to announce that we have partnered up with the Feminist Times, a PR & ad-free magazine, website and membership group. It’s a not for profit organisation that aims to be a real alternative to “women’s” magazines. Anyone can become a member and be a part of this exciting publication and community – links below. There are so many exciting feminist art events and exhibitions happening in September some of the highlights include; the launch of She Grrrowls spoken-word on the 11th of September, an event showcasing female comedians and poets in Bethnal Green. Collagism and friends present an exhibition of collaged screen prints in support of Freedom for Pussy Riot at The Vestible, E2 from 5th- 29th September. Also coming up; Feminism in London and Space Station Sixty-Five present ‘FiLia; an event and exhibition on the 20th of September celebrating art by women to fundraise for Feminism in London Conference on October 26th.

There are also some exciting events happening nationally in September; with the Nottingham Womens Conference on 21st September and also Clitrock III: Rise of the Cliteracy fundraiser in Brighton also on the 21st of September – fundraising for Daughters of Eve – anti Female Genital Mutilation campaign.

Looking ahead- October is an exciting feminist month with the launch of the Feminist Research Centre (FRC) at Goldsmiths University (10th & 31st October), Feminism London Conference and Reclaim the Night March (October 26th) and History of Feminism Network Conference at the British Library- ‘In Conversation with the Women’s Liberation Movement: Intergenerational Histories of Second Wave Feminism’ on 12th October. Also happening across the country with Ladyfest Leeds on October 19th and the North East Feminist Gathering in Newcastle from 12-13th October. *Please note October listings are not published in this month’s update – watch this space!

UK FEMINISTA | London Activist Group: UK Feminista has set up a new London-based feminist activist group. Over the coming year the group will be staging a series of creative, bold actions to challenge sexism and provide visible resistance where women’s rights are under threat. September-October || TATE Modern “Identity Politics” @ TATE Modern. Level 3: Room 8, The Peter Simon Gallery. This display brings together a group of artists who, emerging in the late 1980s and early 1990s, were concerned to highlight issues of inequality and identity politics in their work. Based in New York, these artists often exhibited together.  The works in this display address some of the key issues around identity and politics in the United States at that time, including racism, the AIDS crisis, feminism and economic inequalities.                                                                                                                               MORE INFO:

7 September || East London Fawcett – Exhibition Tour and Artists Talk @ Richard Saltoun Gallery, 11 Great Tichfield Street, W1W 6RY. ELF members are invited on a tour of Richard Saltoun Gallery’s forthcoming exhibition of the work of Alexis Hunter and Jo Spence. The tour will be accompanied by an exclusive talk from Spence’s long term collaborator Terry Dennett. The exhibition brings together important and rarely seen feminist work from the 70s and 80s. 8 September || International Day Against Russian Homophobia/Transphobia London Protest @ Trafalgar Square As part of the International Day Of Solidarity for Global LGBT Equality some 40 cities around the world will be speaking out against Article 6.13.1, the anti-LGBT laws in Russia. 10 September || Shoreditch Sisters – Knit & Natter @ Leon, Spitalfields Market. Join the Shoreditch Sisters (WI) for a lovely evening of knitting and chatting as the seasons begin to turn. Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you can already knit or not, or if you are a member of Shoreditch Sisters WI or not.This month we will be encouraging people to join in on knitting adorable little hats for the Innocent Big Knit. This year is their 10th anniversary and they have raised over £1 million for Age UK since they started the campaign. 20 September || ‘FiLia’ Fundraiser Exhibition @ Space Station Sixty Five,  SE11 4PS. Feminism in London and Space Station Sixty-Five present an extraordinary fundraising event and exhibition celebrating art by women.
